Once the Statedic Plan has been adopted by the Council’s then it will be available onthe website in the “Policies” section.

Of course children’s librarians have always been aware of the link between fastasy stories and young readers. You just need to look at the popularity of Harry Potter or C.S.  Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.

Kevin Emerson’s Oliver Nocturne: the demon hunter is the latest junior fiction book to be added to the carterton collection with this theme. The fourth in this series.  Of course, for the younger reader, Oliver is a reluctant vampire who seeks out evil and deals to it!

Adults need not feel left out. Of course the Meyer’s Eclipse series is equally read by adults and teenagers, but there is a whole range of titles for those caught by the intrigue of the genre. Tate Hallaway’s Tall, dark and dead is Carterton’s latest.

The Carterton Events Centre is an important addition to the infrastructure of the town. It should become the centre of community activity; a place for young and old, for all residents of Carterton.

By combining the library with a range of other community based activities hopefully we will be able to strengthen all and thereby strengthen our community.

Having spaces for a youth centre and Plunket, a hall for conferences, dramatic performance and arts displays as well as all sorts of exhibitions, along with a range of meeting rooms will provide for the diverse range of activities that occur in Carterton.

St John, Red Cross, the Scouts, Plunket and Foodbank will all have a central place to operate from without the wory of maintaining their own building. Opportunities to co-operate and learn from each other will exist as they never have before.

A good example of this is the combined approach to providing the Toy Library service in carterton. With the new building it will be possible for the Toy Library committee to take advantage of the library issuing and stock tracking system. Hours of operation for the toy Library will extend and the Library will be able to offer more services to its borrowers.

SO Carterton now is the time to step up and show you believe in your community. Donations are needed to make this a reality. Every donation counts. These can be made at the Library or by sending your contribution to us at Carterton district Library, P.O. Box 9, Carterton – just mark it Events Centre Donation.

If you belong to a group – start to look at ways you can contribute – NOW is the time!

Remember there is $3m already pledged by the District Council; we need $3m more – make your donation NOW!!!
